What is Prostate cancer?

Prostate cancer involves cancerous cells that are found in the prostate gland. This gland is only found in males and it produces some semen fluid. Most pancreatic cancers are going to be adenocarcinomas that develop from gland cells.

Causes

To this day there still is no direct cause for prostate cancer. But scientists and physicians have found certain risk factors that can increase the probability of developing prostate cancer. These will be discussed next.

Symptoms

Evaluating symptoms of prostate cancer can be tricky if it is at an early stage because there may be no visible symptoms. However, more advanced prostate cancer can cause the following symptoms:

  • Blood in urine or semen
  • Hip pain
  • Urinary problems such as frequent urination
  • Loss of bladder or bowel control

Risk factors

Being of African American descent does put men at higher risk of developing prostate cancer. Prostate cancer tends to affect men 50 years of age and older. It is not as common in men younger than 40, but there are some cases where it occurs. Whenever there is a genetic mutation in a person’s DNA, the risk of developing any cancer will increase.

Prevention

Although there is no absolute way of preventing cancer, getting routine check-ups and screenings will help in reducing the risk of developing cancer. Partaking in daily physical activity, eating wholesome balanced nutrition, and managing stress are some other simple ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle and minimize the risks of cancer attacking the body.
